Now this may seem too simple, but music has the unique ability to immediately change the way we feel. That is why a good movie score is so effective, as it tells us what to feel. Listening to melancholic music will make you feel down and gloomy, while listening to uplifting music will instantly shift your mood and make you feel a lot better. So make a playlist on your phone or computer of all the songs that has an uplifting beat and positive motivating lyrics. I personally enjoy listening to the following:

I personally love to listen to motivational speakers, as they help bring some perspective into your life, giving you the motivation you need to act, and they make you feel empowered. Whenever I am in a bad mood and listen to some of the great motivational speakers, I am instantly filled with motivation and new ideas on how to improve my life. Some of the great speakers are:

Just like how music can affect your mood, so can movies. Movies are just as powerful and can help you feel good if you choose the right movie. Now, it is a little bit more tricky with movies, as even though there are uplifting movies, those movies may not do anything for you if you do not like the movie or if the topic is not relevant for you. You must find a movie that specifically focuses on what you want and need. So for instance if you are struggling to achieve your goals and dreams, "The Pursuit of Happyness" would be a great choice. If however you want to find love, a chick flick is more suited for you. So find a movie that can inspire you and give you a feeling of hope and optimism.
Even though socializing is probably the last thing you want to do right now, as you lie curled up on your couch, being around other people can be the most therapeutic relief you can get, as you will be around happy people, which will instantly affect how you feel. Besides being around positive people, you also get a chance to share your feelings and thoughts, as talking about our problems can help us see them from another perspective, and you might realize that what you thought would be a huge problem is really not that big and nothing to lose sleep over or get upset about.
Being inside your house can sometimes make you even more depressed and frustrated, as we need fresh air and seeing new things. So put on some clothes and take a walk around your neighborhood. Maybe there is a peaceful park nearby you can go to, or maybe you live near the water. It doesn't matter where you go, as long as you go outside and get some fresh air in yoru lungs and some visual stimulation.
The last thing you can do to instantly feel happy is being around animals. This may very well be the most powerful technique, as animals have this unique ability to bring up a feeling of unconditional love inside of us, just by being themselves and looking cute. People with pets know this feeling, as no matter how angry or sad you may be, when you look into those innocent eyes of your dog or cat, you can't help but to feel a little better. So if you have a pet, spend your day making your pet happy by playing with it and taking long walks. If you do not have your own pet, go to a place where you are able to be around animals, such as the dog park or a farm.
